Felicia's obituary
It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Felicia Chatman Payne, a beacon of love and generosity. Felicia was born on June 14, 1963, and gently left this world on January 27, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy full of kindness, generosity, and the warmest memories, and is survived by her loving children, Alicia Payne, Alaina Payne, Donovan Payne, and her cherished granddaughter, Celine Payne. She is also survived by her mother Ruth Brown, her sister Regina O'Hara, and Brothers Earl Chatman Sr, Vincent Chatman, Ted Chatman, Reginald Chatman, and George Benjamin as well as many nephews and nieces.
Felicia was a proud attendee of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. A loving mother and grandmother, she was also a distinguished graduate from the University of Florida, where she embraced her lifelong passion for caring for others and earned her Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Her infectious bubbly personality, coupled with her warmth, kindness, and compassion, were felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Felicia took great delight in life's simple pleasures. She savored fried fish and seafood and cherished her favorite books, especially The Bible, finding strength and wisdom in its pages. Felicia was a music enthusiast, with a particular fondness for Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. Her favorite movies included The Preacher's Wife, Gone with the Wind and Tombstone, and she unapologetically donned her favorite color, red, always. Felicia enjoyed long-distance walking as a refreshing and invigorating exercise. She loved vacationing in her homestate Florida and often fondly recalled her many joyful memories there.
Felicia was also known for her deep commitment to philanthropic causes, especially Compassion International where she adopted and sponsored a Haitian child and family. Her favorite piece of advice that she shared with others was to "Keep God first at all times", a testament to her unwavering faith.
Felicia's passing is a tremendous loss to everyone who knew her. As her family, children, grandchild, and her beloved grandpups mourn her, we also celebrate her remarkable life and cherish the love, wisdom, and joy she bestowed upon us. The sorrow we feel at her passing is only surpassed by gratitude for having had her in our lives.
