Faye's obituary

Faye Ora Swan passed away from this earth and into Heaven on November 4, 2024 at the age of 86. Faye was born on April 5, 1938, in Mt. Hermon, Louisiana to Berchel and Ora Mae Alford. She surrendered her life to Christ as a child and held strongly to her Savior throughout her years on this earth. She often shared her faith by singing and worshiping in church choirs. She was a faithful member of Adaton Baptist Church in Starkville, Mississippi. Faye married Pat Swan, whom she loved dearly, on June 15, 1956 in Progress, Mississippi. They had a blessed marriage of sixty-eight beautiful and happy years. Together they enjoyed raising their two sons and often enjoyed family time at Silver Run Lake, Land-O-Lakes, and Pumpkin Creek. She loved spending these days fishing, riding motorcycles, growing flowers, and making many other wonderful memories with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Faye worked at Mississippi State University for thirty-one years in The Department of Animal Sciences, The Alumni Association, and The Department of Biological Sciences until her retirement. Her many years working for the university and living in Starkville instilled within her a deep adoration for the Mississippi State Bulldogs; she loved her dawgs. Faye also had a strong appreciation for God’s beauty in nature. She was an avid gardener and bird watcher. The oasis she created for the birds in her yard is a testament to her love of wildlife. She enjoyed bringing her family beside her in her hobbies including sewing interesting projects, porch-swinging through a sunset, or attending bluegrass gospel concerts. Another of her favorite things to do was cook and bake for others alongside Pat; everyone has always loved their tea cakes, banana pudding, and homemade preserves. Faye’s life was an example of faith, love, happiness, and thoughtfulness. She is deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.

Faye is preceded in death by her parents, Berchel Lazar Alford and Ora Mae Alford; her sister, Delores Thomas; and brother, Wiley Alford. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-eight years, Pat Henry Swan of Starkville, Mississippi. She is also survived by her children James Swan (Patti) of Sevierville, Tennessee and Kenneth Swan (Tracey) of Madison, Mississippi; her grandchildren Alan Swan (Jill) of Madison, Mississippi, Matthew Swan (Christie) of Dallas, Georgia, Nathan Swan of Madison, Mississippi, Mary Hannah Kinney (T.C.) of Madison, Mississippi, and Andrew Swan of Madison, Mississippi; and her great-grandchildren Caleb Swan, Audrey Swan, Dean Kinney, and Helen Kinney.

A celebration of life service for Faye Swan will be held at 4:00P.M. on November 24, 2024, at Adaton Baptist Church in Starkville, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Palmer Home for Children or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
