Fasiya's obituary
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Fasiya Hamati, a remarkable woman who embodied warmth, kindness, and cultural pride. Born on April 11, 1940, she departed from this world on May 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of vibrant life, infectious laughter and love.
Fasiya was an alumnus of the American University of Beirut, where she obtained her B.S. degree in Biology in 1962. Her academic journey not only honed her intellect but also sparked in her an unshakeable curiosity for life and its wonders. This curiosity was mirrored in her approach to people, treating every individual she met with genuine interest and respect.
Fasiya was a woman of simple pleasures, appreciating the finer aspects of life, culture, and human connection. Among her favorite foods were the traditional grape leaves, a dish that encapsulated her love for her heritage. She had an affinity for the profound and thought-provoking poetry by Khalil Gibran, often finding solace and inspiration in the verses that spoke to her soul.
Music was an essential part of Fasiya's existence. The rhythm and melody of 'Alf Leila Wa Leila' by Umm Kulthum brought her immense joy, often stirring her to dance and sing with unbound enthusiasm. Fasiya's joy was contagious, her love for music and dance invariably serving as the heart of many gatherings.
Described by those who loved her as kind and warm, Fasiya was a woman who danced and sang a lot. Her positive aura, love for her culture, and compassion for people were all aspects that made her the extraordinary person that she was. She was a friend to many, an inspiration to all, and she will be profoundly missed. May her soul rest in peace.
