At that time Eva lived in Solomon Quarters in Arkansas Phillips County South Helena. Evie's children's names are as follows; Freddie J. Williams born July 7, 1926. (Arnectie Wiliams) Arnestsia Williams born Dec 15, 1932, in the State of Arkansas, County of Phillips, Township of St. Francis, City of Helena to Evie Brown at 22 years of age and Jettie Williams was 48 years of age. Oscar Williams born Oct 25, 1934, in the State of Arkansas, County of Phillips, Township of St. Francis, City of Helena to Evie Brown at 24 years of age and Jettie Williams was 50 years of age. (Loranzie Williams) Lorenzo Williams born on Sept 3, 1935. Evie worked as a housekeeper and farming laborer and her husband Jettie worked in a sawmill. Supposedly Evie made moonshine and had a distillery in the backwoods that many recall walking to while her daughter Arneste Williams-Powell worked at the neighborhood store in Helena Crossing. My great uncle Lorenzo Williams told of a house his mother Evie had on a hill that caught fire killing relatives and friends, devastating his mother. Evie moved to Chicago with her only daughter to help care for her family. Documented as Evie Brown on her children's birth certificates. Evie is also documented as Evvie Williams on the April 19, 1940 census. On that same census 2 of her children's names were spelled incorrectly, but with the correct address. She was born in 1905, according to her Social Security Number applied for in 1961 in the name Eva Williams, this was a mistake. According to social security records, Evie Brown died on December 5, 1983, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 73 using the name Eva Elizabeth Williams. Due to government employees' racism and illiteracies, my great grandmother's age and family name were besmirched. Evie Brown's name was changed when she applied for her social security card. Evie Brown is Evie Williams because of her marriage to Jettie Williams. And due to racism and illiteracies, my great grandmother is also Eva Elizabeth Williams, Eva Elizabeth Brown, Eva Williams, Eva Brown, Evvie Brown, Evvie Williams. Evie is survived by a host of family and friends to mourn her passing.
