Diane's obituary
In Loving Memory of Evelyn Diane “Diane” Porter
March 29, 1947 – May 27, 2025
Evelyn Diane Porter, lovingly known as Diane, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 29, 1947, Diane lived a life full of energy, warmth, and spirit. She was the kind of woman who turned moments into memories and carried her family with fierce, unwavering love.
At just 19 years old, Diane married the love of her life, John Charles “Chuck” Porter. Their bond was a lasting one—marked by humor, devotion, and a legacy of family that will live on for generations. Together they raised two sons, John Porter and Jason Porter, and built a life surrounded by the people they loved most.
Alongside her in life was her beloved sister, Mercy, with whom Diane shared a deep, lifelong bond. They were more than sisters; they were best friends, partners in laughter, and one another’s greatest supporters. From childhood through adulthood, they spent years side by side, surrounded by their cousins and loved ones, creating memories that stitched their hearts together in joy. Their connection was one of the truest and most constant joys of Diane’s life.
Diane was a proud and passionate grandmother to six grandchildren: John William Porter, Anna Porter, Josh Porter, Josiah Porter, Jackson Porter, and Julianna Porter. She was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Violet Porter and Rowan May, both of whom will grow up hearing stories of the love, strength, and laughter that defined their great-grandmother.
She stepped up in times of need, offering not only her time and care, but her unwavering love and wisdom. Diane helped raise her grandchildren with grace and grit, teaching them lessons that will live on through each of them—and be passed down through the generations that follow. In the final years of her mother’s life, Diane opened her home and her heart once again, becoming her caretaker and support system. It was an act of deep love and quiet strength, and a testament to the kind of daughter—and woman—she was.
She is survived by her husband, Chuck Porter; her sons, John (Lynn) and Jason (Amanda); her grandchildren and great-granddaughters; her beloved sister, Mercy; her nieces, Lisa and Katie, whom she proudly loved as an aunt; and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nan Evans.
Diane will be remembered for her fiery soul, her playful heart, and the way she could light up a room with a single look or a quick-witted remark. Whether dancing to Mambo No. 5, taking her grandkids to Pierlon Lake, or telling a story that left everyone doubled over in laughter, Diane lived out loud—and she loved the same way. She especially loved being Irish and wore that pride like a badge of honor—bold, joyful, and a little mischievous.
Her spirit lives on in the memories, laughter, and love she gave so freely. She will be missed more than words can say, and remembered more vividly than time can ever fade.
