The Albuquerque Academy where Evan went to school from 6 th grade through 12th grade. Service will take place at Simms Auditorium which is where Evan participated in many plays over the years. The campus is large, and it can be a bit hard to find things so plan to arrive a few minutes early if you haven’t been there before. Perhaps before
or after the celebration you may want to walk around campus briefly outside to see where Evan spent his formative years.

(If driving, there are three gated entrances to campus; two of which will be open the day
of the ceremony (the gates off Wyoming Blvd and off Academy Road). Once on
campus, you will follow signs to Simms Auditorium. Drop a pin for where to park.)

This will occur immediately following the Celebration. This is the home where Evan lived from when he was about 10 years old. There will be heavy hors d’oeuvres and, of course, a bar.

Parking is available along the right side of Pino Canyon Place road as you approach the house. Please do not park along the other side of the road. The home is located at the end of the cul-de-sac. You can either drop off at the cul de sac and head back down to park or park and then wait for golf cart pickup. Or walk. Picnic blankets will be available in the yard.

Plums will be available throughout the house.

Everyone is invited into Evan’s bedroom for any reason. That and his hospice room will be an Evan Museum filled with memorabilia from his life.

Per Evan’s instruction:
if guests would like to bring anything to share and display during the party, they can. There will be a pen and paper so you can write down what the item is, its significance, and who it is temporarily on loan from. Once you enter the room
you must become the docent to the next person that enters and walk them through the display making up Evan stories along the way.

Per Evan, the theme for all this is the quote from Voltaire’s Candide:
“If we don’t find anything pleasant, at least we shall find something new.”

This program will commence around 5pm in the main living room (or wherever we can find space or outside if it is beautiful). Anyone/everyone can tell a story about Evan.

Evan hopes secrets of his life are shared and immodesty is banned and anyone can say anything they want about Evan. Weirdest story gets a prize. Other prizes will be awarded at random.

Dion’s Pizza (Evan’s favorite) will be delivered (including Evan and any New Mexican’s favorite pie: pepperoni and green chile). Negronis and Malort and other drinks will be available.

It is not my intention to adopt any culture. I chose the word “shiva” as it was as close to what I envision for a memorial service as I could. If anyone is upset with the word choice, I apologize. There is no expectation for anyone to perform a “Jewish” ritual; the expectation is that everyone comes together to remember me as a community of my loved ones. No need to cover mirrors; no need to have people bring food; wear torn clothing; sit on the floor–none of that. Just be together. As one. Remembering the coolest person in the world. Who is now dead.

Evan’s Happy Shiva will conclude at 7pm so his adorable nieces and nephews can get some sleep. But Evan did wish that his friends might collectively or individually enjoy “whatever beautiful or ugly colors God has provided at sunset”. According to our AI overlords this should occur at 8:22pm.
