Evan's obituary

Rev. Evan Gay Butterbrodt departed from us March 10th, 2023 at Weslaco, TX. Evan was born in Arpin, Wisconsin to Wyant A. Butterbrodt and Helen R. (Rickaby).

Evan was a long-time resident of Marshfield, WI. Upon graduation from Marshfield Senior High School, June 1960, Evan served in the United States Marine Corps. While nearing completion of his tour, he married his high school sweetheart, Judith (Judy) A. (Schmidt), June 29, 1963 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Evan was a long-time resident of the Marshfield area. After completing his military obligation, he began his thirty-three years of employment with Distributors Warehouse, Inc. in Marshfield. In the latter years of his employment, he also held a second job as a part-time pastor to two United Methodist Churches (Fairchild, and Humbird). After retirement from Distributors Warehouse Inc., entered into his second career as a full-time pastor at United Methodist Churches in Loyal and York Center.

He is the proud father of two children, Michelle Renee, and Michael Scott.

While living in Marshfield, he was active in Wesley United Methodist Church, Elk’s Lodge #665, held various positions in Scouting; Cub Scouts, Explorer Scouts, and District positions of the Samoset Council.

Evan and Judy moved to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas July 12, 2004, and became quite active in the community. He was active in the Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church. He was also a Master Gardener, an active AARP member, a member of the Honorary Police, a past member of the Wisconsin Club, as well as being involved in other volunteer work while in Horseshoe Bend.

After wintering in Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley for several years, Evan and Judy, in 2009, found a winter home in Donna, TX in the Rio Grande Valley. While living in Donna, he became a member of The Amigos de Los Niños de Mexico, the Casa Del Sol choir, volunteered in several other areas in the Casa Del Sol community and the Senior Ambassadors men’s choral group. He regularly attended Weslaco First United Methodist Church in Weslaco, TX.

Following the passing of beloved wife Judy in 2014, Evan remained a resident of the Rio Grande Valley. He remarried in 2017 to Frances Foreman of Donna, TX. Evan and Fran moved to the nearby Alamo Country Club in Alamo, TX. Evan also became the full-time pastor at Donna First United Methodist Church.

Evan was a graduate of Cleveland Institute of Electronics, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Saint Paul School of Theology-Kansas City.

Evan was a Past Exalter Ruler and Chaplain of Marshfield Elk’s Lodge #665, a licensed Extra Class Amateur Radio operator, the holder of a FCC Commercial License, Life Member American Motorcycle Association, Life Member National Rifle Association, Vietnam veteran, ordained pastor and member of the Wisconsin Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. His hobbies and other interests are too numerous to list.

Evan was predeceased by his wife, Judy, his parents, and his sister, Valerie Moore. Left to mourn his absence; wife, Frances Foreman, daughter, Michelle Walton and husband Calvin of Stone Mountain, GA; son, Michael and his wife Ruth (Baures) of Stoughton, WI; three grandsons, Stefan and Ryan Butterbrodt, and Caleb Walton; and brother, Reginald Butterbrodt of Nekoosa, WI.
