Happy Birthday EJ!  I loved how you would comment how we both were born in 1947.  You were by my side yesterday on your birthday when I golfed with your beautiful swing & tempo.  Those Tuesdays were wonder filled!    Xxx,    Cookie Ayabe

At Max's 80th Birthday Party — with Ray Cho and Eun-Ja Cho

Our condolences and sympathy go out to Eun-Ja's family. I am sure I knew Eun-Ja when we were both living in Korea, since we were cousin. However, we became closer when living on mainland, I would often visit Hawaii on vacation. Eun-Ja was always very welcoming to our family and we looked forward to seeing her, LeeJay and their children.

I think the most memorable recollection that I had of Eun-Ja was in February 2008 when I was in Seoul visiting after a short term medical mission trip to India.  LeeJay was there on a trip and told me about her cancer diagnosis. I was shocked. I tried to help with what medical knowledge that I had about that diagnosis (which was outside of my domain). I requested our strong prayer warriors from the mission team pray for her, as I did. With prayers and treatments she successfully was treated and went into remission. I was so thankful that she lived many more years in good health.  I thought all of our prayers had been answered.

After the big pandemic year, 2020, I began to work part time at Kapi’olani Medical Center. It was a blessing to see her more often, even with the difficult circumstances of 2020. She invited me to attend services at the Central Union Church on Sundays which I tried to do. She had survived the Covid scare, and it seemed to me that she was out of the woods. Unexpectedly the cancer came back some 17 years after it was diagnosed. That news was more shocking.

I sometimes wonder why God allowed the cancer to relapse — to such as beautiful and faithful person. I am trying to find the meaning, but I struggle to find it. We are taught not to ask why, but ask where God is working in this circumstance. I hope to see product of God’s work in the future.

Eun-Ja will be always be in our memory. She provided so many fond memories. She will be missed. Our prayers to out to her children, Nuy, Ray, and Jeremy and all her grandchildren and extended family. God bless you all.
