Gene's obituary

Eugene Anton Swiech, 94, of Naperville, formerly of Carillon in Plainfield, died peacefully in his home on the morning of May 18. He was surrounded by his loved ones.

Gene was born in 1930 to the late Roman and Lottie Swiech. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict era. As a young man, he married the love of his life, Rita Rose (Rakowski), and they shared a life together for over 72 years.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Rita, his son Robert (Carol), and daughters Pamela Sterba (Bob), Gail Wilkening (William), and Dawn Knox (Jack). Gene was the proud and loving Papa of six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Lorraine Tepper 100 years old, brothers Roman Jr, Thomas and Richard. He is survived by his sister, Julia Grabowski.

Gene served as the President of the Chelsea HOA for 15 years and was granted President Emeritus by the board of directors for his selfless service.

Gene has been a selfless and devoted caregiver to his wife, Rita, for the past ten years. It was Gene’s wish that any memorial tributes be made to The Alzheimer’s Association - https://act.alz.org/donate

A Celebration of Life will be held in Gene’s honor at a later date.
