Eugene (Gene) William Olson, 56 passed away September 5th, 2023 in Des Moines, Iowa. Gene will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery on October 20th, 2023 at 11:00. A Celebration of Life will follow at The American Legion Hall located at 910 Main St, Van Meter Iowa.

While Gene always considered Iowa his home, Gene spent time in his younger years between Iowa, Washington, and Nebraska. In his older years he spent time in Germany, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and Oregon.

Gene was a very talented artist much like his parents. He enjoyed computers, gaming, and anything technology. Gene often helped people with their cars, having learned from his father as well as being a mechanic in the United States Army.

Gene was a Cold War Veteran, serving at Camp Eschborn in Germany and Fort Drum New York from 1985-1989. While in the Army, he received an Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, and Army Achievement Medal.

Gene is preceded in death by his father Paul Charles Olson and his sister Stephanie Lynn Olson. Gene is survived by his mother Mary Margaret Melville (Blaine), Brothers Matthew Olson (Shalon) and Jeff Olson (Renee), his Aunt Gini Sims (Ken), many nieces and nephews, friends, and his cat Lucy.

Gene loved cats. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Furry Friends Refuge in West Des Moines, Iowa.
