Eugene's obituary
Eugene Henry Leingang Jr., 78, passed away on October 13, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on May 27, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Gene lived a life marked by creativity, resilience, and deep personal passions.
A skilled commercial painter and Carpenter by trade, Gene was also a true artist at heart. He found immense joy in expressing himself through music. Always with a guitar in hand or a song on his lips, Gene’s love for music was more than a hobby—it was a defining part of who he was. His passion for singing and playing guitar brought light to those around him and reflected the vibrant spirit he carried throughout his life.
Gene also had a talent for building and creating. Whether working on projects around the house or designing something new in the yard, he approached each task with dedication and care. His craftsmanship extended beyond his professional work into every corner of his life.
In 2005, following Hurricane Katrina, Gene evacuated from New Orleans to Lexington, Kentucky. Captivated by the cooler climate and welcoming community, he chose to make Kentucky his permanent home. It was there that he met his loving fiancée, Patty Confer. Together they built a life filled with companionship and shared joy in Lebanon, Kentucky.
Gene is survived by his daughters Jennifer and Lindsey (Woody), Tracie Williams; his brother Andy; sister Rikki; nieces; grandchildren; and his cherished bonus family through Patty Confer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Gene Williams.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Norton Health Hospital for their devoted care during Gene’s final days. Special thanks are also given to the staff at Southern Cremation Society of KY for their compassionate support.
In keeping with Gene’s private nature, no formal services will be held. A private celebration of life will be arranged at a later date for those closest to him. Condolences or floral tributes may be sent to 344 Lee Ave., Lebanon, KY 40033.
May Gene’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire through the music and art he so dearly loved.
