I had the pleasure of working with Gene at Bellcore. Very sorry to hear of his passing. God bless him!

I met Gene as a member of the large community of researchers, part of Bell Communications Research institution. Although we did not work on the same projects, at the department level, I had the opportunity to see Gene and listen to a thoughtful, very precise, well organized, a no nonsense guy in statements and proposals. A person accompanied by the aura of a veteran in telecommunications and an avid Scuba diver, a true environmentalist, and a traveler in many exotic places.
Completely independent, I suggested to our friend Panse, who decided to defect and not return to Romania to go on an organized trip to Alaska. Trip information provided by Gene as one of the participant. A trip ended with Gene and Panse as a married couple. A start of a three decades of friendship. Travelling, snorkeling, even Scuba diving together, fishing expeditions, numerous visits, sharing travel impressions and organizing slide projections.
Gene, as a professional colleague, helped me in reviewing and final editing the published book “Fixed-mobile wireless network convergence”. His questions, comments, his utmost grace and diligence in improving the material made his contribution invaluable. Gene was also the person who reviewed and added his insight to the series of essays I wrote and disseminated as a timely chronicle of the state of affairs during Donald Trump presidency. On his part, a well-documented informed person with an unwavering pursue of truth and fairness in the political and social life of American Union. On par with his professional contributions.
For all these, I will be always immensely grateful to Gene and Panse for their friendship and wonderful memories.
