Ethel's obituary
Ethel Naomi Taylor, affectionately known as “Put,” was born on September 28, 1937, in Norfolk, Virginia, and peacefully passed away on March 21, 2026.
She was the beloved wife of James Taylor, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. Ethel was a devoted mother to Angela Edwards (James), Byron Taylor, Brian Taylor (Lisa), and Karen Harvin. She was a proud grandmother to Nichelle Brown, Brittany Burton (Brandon), Byron Taylor II, Derriell Taylor, Chase Whitney, Giovanni Taylor, Martina Taylor, Samuel Taylor (Alex), Joshua Taylor, and Tisa Harvin, and a loving great-grandmother to many.
Ethel worked as a cook for Norfolk Public Schools at Camp E. W. Young and took great pride in caring for others. A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of Lee’s Chapel AME Church, served as an usher, and later as a greeter at The Mount. She was also a member of the Golden Age Senior Club.
Ethel will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, and the love she shared with her family. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
