Esther's obituary
Esther “Nana” Youngblood Evans, age 98, passed away in the early afternoon on June 11, 2023 in Columbiana, Alabama. Esther was born on February 9, 1925 in Siluria, Alabama to her parents Thomas Garner Youngblood and Jessie Hinton Youngblood. She attended Montevallo High School and later went on to attend Alabama College and University of Alabama at Birmingham. Esther held careers in education and nursing, where she touched the lives of many, young and old.
Esther was a loving, proud, caring, generous, strong-willed, determined, and resilient person. She was a good friend to many and enjoyed volunteering at her church, visiting the Gardens around Birmingham, learning, and enriching others' lives through her kindness and compassion.
Esther is survived by her son, Thomas Michael Evans, her daughter-in-law and primary caretaker, Karen Bowden Evans (Jim), and her grandchildren (Jim and Karen): James Brantley, Alicen Frances, and Jessie Pearl Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Jessie Youngblood, husband, William Thomas Evans, Jr., her son, James “Jim” William Evans, and her siblings: Donald, Hugh, Olen, and Doris (Leo) Youngblood.
Visitation will be held at 1:30pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm on June 20, 2023 at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Children's Ministries at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church or Second Shift of Alabama. Esther will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
