Essie's obituary

Essie Lee Williams, affectionately known as “Aunt Essie” or “Mother Williams,” was born to Julius Ceasar and Lucille Person on May 8, 1947 in Franklinton, NC. Essie peacefully slept away in her home on Tuesday, January 25th at the age of 74. 

As a child, Essie attended school and worked on the family farm with her siblings. In 1968, she met her future husband, Leon Williams. They were married on May 14, 1971 in Henderson, North Carolina by the late Bishop John L. Brooks then moved to Washington, DC. Together, Essie and Leon raised ten children. 

In addition to being a dedicated wife and loving mother; Essie loved cooking, sewing, spending time with family and helping people whenever she could.

Throughout her entire life she held an unwavering faith in God which she shared with those who surrounded her. 

Essie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Obadiah Person, two nephews Johnnie Person and John Person.

Essie’s legacy will forever be honored and cherished by her loving husband, Leon Williams, four daughters, Shanté (Amos) , Tiffeney (Kurt), Angel (Preston) and Zsavonna (Andomino); six sons, Terrance (Dottie) , Glenn, Leon J., Valdez (LaVonda) , James and Lloyd. Thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters, Beatrice and Mary Frances Person, three brothers, John Mark (Vivian) Person, Lee (Gloria) Person and George Person. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
