Errol's obituary

It is with Great Sorrow and Regret that I wish to inform everyone that Errol Peter Merghart has passed away at the age of 75. He joins his parents Jan and Eve and his brothers Robin Merghart and Andre Merghart in The Halls of Valhalla. Most people knew him as an accomplished dancer but my Wise Uncle - as I always affectionately called him - was a great Fighter and a talented Writer also. His 100,000 word memoir will be available for all to read soon… he and I worked on it in together during the 5 years prior to his passing and I will be editing it just one more time before I let the world read it. Unfortunately I will have to finish his final chapter on Mexico and China which I know pretty well thankfully.

Thank you Uncle Errol for telling me that Alexander The Great said “Fortune Favors The Bold” and telling me to be a Fighter and a Lover - and that Love Conquers All. He is left behind by his two sons Jan Merghart who currently lives in Argentina and Armand Merghart who currently lives on some Island in Maine. He is survived by Jennifer Merghart Eagan (who recently lost her husband and my Uncle Brian) and his sister Lorraine Ballard and Rene Merghart.

I think he would want me to tell people that he faced death head on, having battled lymphoma and various forms of cancer and beating them all until the bitter end. A student of Michio Kushi he was a Master of the Macrobiotic Diet and he was also a Yoga Instructor and a Master of The Tango and Ballet having danced in Stuttgart and Paris and Venice in the 1970’s.  He was given a Lifetime Achievement award by The Chinese Government in Beijing in 2020 for his work teaching ballet in China.

He was one of those kinds of guys who would easily laugh in the face of death and I am sure he did - even at the very end. One of the toughest and most unique people I have ever met in my life and a great teacher and mentor. He spent his final years traveling and falling in love in China and got to spend a month in Bali with Andre before returning to spend the last 3 summers in Mexico. He would want me to remind everyone that he spoke 5 languages fluently and even learned Chinese fluently in his last years. A true world traveler, he will be missed by all that knew him.

The Buddha was once asked “What is the greatest mistake we make in life?”

He paused for a moment and replied…

“Thinking we have time.”

Errol loved that quote and told me this often… yes Wise Uncle… indeed.

God Speed Errol!

Your Nephew,

Julian
