Ernestine's obituary

Ernestine was born on Nov. 7, 1927 and “fell asleep in death” (Acts 7:60) on Dec. 17, 2023.

She is preceded in death by her parents Carlos and Viriginia Calderon, her loving husband Ygnacio O. Marquez and her children, Leticia Harris and her infant son, Ricardo Marquez. Her predeceased siblings are Carlitos, Margarita, Alberto, Arturo Calderon and Virginia Sandoval. You would always hear Ernestine say, “I have such a beautiful family.” She is survived by her sibling Antonio “Tony” (Eva) Calderon. Her children Alberto (Galahad) Marquez, Ignacio “Nacho” (Raquel) Marquez, Jr., Mary Helen (Henry) Salinas and Anna M. Puente. Also survived by her grandchildren Marisol (Fernando) Quiñonez, Susanna “Suzy” (Omar) Lopez, Cristina (Javier) Ramirez, Yanira (LD) Gomez, Sonja Marquez and Ricardo (Felina) Marquez. Her great grandchildren Marina (Adalberto “Beto”) Rodriguez, Mia Gomez, Jacob and Caleb Ramirez, Zoe Gomez and soon to be born, Camila Marquez. Her great-great grandchildren Marileya and Sophia Rodriguez. She is survived by grandchildren from extended members of the Salinas and Lopez families. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. For more than two decades Ernestine worked at TUSD as a teacher’s assistant. She was very creative, passionate, loving in all that she did. Her hospitality, baking, and sewing skills were very admirable. In her 96 years of life, she touched many hearts. Above all, Ernestine was a relentless, God fearing woman who dedicated her life to our loving Father Jehovah as one of his Witnesses on November 10, 1974. Our memories of her will sustain us until we are able to reunite with her upon Jesus’ calling to “come out” at the time of resurrection (John 5:28-29).

A memorial service will be held at 2p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5462 S. Sixth Ave.
