Ernestine's obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of the radiant Ernestine Griffin. Born on October 23, 1942, Ernestine lived a full and vibrant life until her passing on November 22, 2023. She is survived by her loving granddaughter, Destiny Mitchell, whose presence brought her great joy and contentment.

The memory of Ernestine will be honored at a service on December 1, 2023, at 9:30am, located at 1220 N Chester St. She was a devout attendee of the Israelite Baptist Church, where her faith was nurtured and her spirit uplifted.

Ernestine was an industrious woman who dedicated a significant part of her life to volunteering at the New Life Food Pantry, cultivating a legacy of service and compassion. She held a fondness for simple pleasures like her favorite foods - mac and cheese, roast beef, salmon and rice, and potato salad, which she often paired with her preferred drinks of Pepsi, wine, and gin.

Ernestine's personality was a beacon of positivity, described best as bubbly, warm, outgoing, and outspoken. She lived by the principle of treating others as she would like to be treated, a lesson she passed on to those who had the pleasure of knowing her. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising her children and grandchildren, the pillars of her life that she built with endless love and nurture.

She found entertainment and escape through the words of the Holy Bible, the rhythm of Al Green, Teddy Pendergrass, Patty LaBelle, and Mary J. Blige, and the stories in Price is right, Martin, Stephen Cigar, Bold and Beautiful and Seven Heaven. She was a fan of the films Men in Black and What Love Got to Do With It and engaged in games like Pity Pack and Tonk.

Ernestine showed an affinity for performances such as "This Is It" by Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, and the Temptations. She enjoyed recreational activities including spending time with her grandchildren and found joy in simple exercises like taking a walk around the park and cooking and cleaning.

Ernestine was deeply passionate about supporting cancer survivors, a cause close to her heart. As she transitions to her new abode in heaven, we will remember her fondly in her favorite color, white, a reflection of her brilliant and loving soul. Ernestine Griffin will be missed but will continue to live in our hearts and memories.
