Ernie's obituary

On Wednesday afternoon, January 25, 2023, Ernest “Ernie” Tonhauser, loving husband and father, passed away at age 79.

He was born January 20, 1944, in Glaserhau, Czechoslovakia and immigrated with his family to the U.S. in 1952. He entered the third grade at St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Akron, Ohio. He is a 1962 alumnus of Hoban Catholic High School and obtained his Certificate of Naturalization the same year. He attended Kent State University and the University of Southern California. He resided in the Akron- Cuyahoga Falls area prior to relocating to Merritt Island, Florida in 1984, where he fully enjoyed “island life”.

Married 53 years, Ernie and wife Lois, combined their individual talents of engineering, planning and interior design and were successful partners in renovating properties in both Ohio and Florida.

Ernie was known as “Mr. Fixit” and took pride in learning how to fix or build all projects undertaken. His work ethics were undeniable, always wise with advice; and it seemed as though no technical question was out of his purview. Those words of wisdom will be missed.

Ernest has now rejoined his deceased parents, George and Johanna Tonhauser; sister Agnes “Esty” Heiselman (Fred) and brother Henry Tonhaeuser (Barbara). He is survived by wife Lois (Hoover) Tonhauser and son Ernest George Tonhauser (Jenny), granddaughters Victoria and Maddalyn Tonhauser, all of Merritt Island. He also leaves brother-in-law Donald R. Hoover (Linda) of Inverness, Florida; and, nephew Donald P. Hoover (Wendy) of Melbourne, Florida; also, nephews Karl- Heinz, Kurt, and Henry Tonhaeuser; and a niece Joanne (Heiselman) Stone (Jon), all of Ohio.

There are no calling hours. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron, Ohio.
