Ernest's obituary

Ernest Junior Coburn was born January 27, 1928 in Geyserville, California to Ernest Alfred and Ethel Amanda Coburn. He died October 2, 2022 in Eugene, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Irene (Hendrix), his second wife, Eleanor Ann (Neal), and his 3 sons, Randall, Timothy, and Kelly. He is survived by his brother Robert Coburn; sons Larry, Dennis, and Ed Coburn; Steven and Mack Neal; daughters Volinda Neal and Terria (Neal) Coburn; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ernest, also known as Ernie, Junior, Papa, GG Papa, and Pop, was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. At various times he worked hard in orchards, on fishing boats, in the woods and in mills. But his life’s work can only be accurately understood as serving the Lord in the local church, wherever he went. Throughout his life, regardless of his job, he was active in the local church filling whatever role was needed, from preaching and teaching, to bookkeeping and leadership. Following the urging of his grandmother, he was a blessing to many in small churches of Christ his entire adult life.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1pm at the Eugene Church of Christ, 2424 Norkenzie Road, Eugene, OR.

Ernest’s family asks that donations in his honor be made to Eastern European Missions (EEM.org) New Mexico Christian Children’s Home (nmcch.org) or the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort (disasterreliefeffort.org)
