Working with Jean was a treat! After I left CDC, the experience there “pushed” me into public school education. But some things I remember and loved most were our CDC trips and the pranks that were pulled. Jean had a great sense of humor and just enough slyness to give a good laugh. San Antonio, Cancun, Missouri, New Mexico, Florida, all hold good memories of those trips together.

Blessings and sympathies to the Smith family. What a champion Jean was for children! Our daughters were beneficiaries of that passion, both in the classroom and in the swimming pool (and thanks to Karla as well). Jensy and I, along with Meredith and Melissa, are forever grateful for the role your family played in our lives.

It was a great honor to work with Jean. She loved the LORD from the center of her soul and that love always guided her decisions. Jean also loved her family. She loved little children and was passionate about teaching them. The Montessori style of teaching perfectly supported Jean’s deep respect for young children and her desire to nurture their curiosity and love for learning. My family was dearly blessed to have swim lessons and life lessons with Jean. Your influence will always be cherished.

Our deepest condolences are extended to Alton and all of their family at this time.
