Erike's obituary

Erike Jeffrey Mayo departed this earth far too soon on August 26, 2023, at the age of 53. Erike was born on June 11,1970 to Lenora and John Mayo at Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He began his elementary education in New York City but he and his family would later move to Teaneck, New Jersey. Erike attended St. Cecilia High School in Englewood and would go on and graduate from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Business Management.

Erike held technical positions at General Electric, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, GE Aerospace and Martin Marietta. He later became a certified small business development consultant with New York City Department of Small Business Services working largely with creative arts clients. He served as project manager for ARTBusiness, a joint program for arts, culture, media, and entertainment entrepreneurship with the Department of Small Business Services and the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.

In addition, Erike worked as an independent consultant, providing services to small businesses and medium- and large-scale entertainment organizations. Among the businesses he catalyzed are Sony RED Distribution, Philadelphia International Records, Paisley Park Films, and Concrete Pictures.

Erike also taught as an adjunct professor at Rowan University and Stevens Institute; served as an entrepreneurship and career readiness counselor for the U.S. Army Reserve National Guard’s Citizen Soldier for Life Program; and provided coaching for entrepreneurial technology-based teams at Rutgers Business School and New Jersey Institute of Technology. In December 2022, he was named Regional Director of William Paterson University’s Small Business Development Center.

With all his endeavors, Erike’s greatest achievement was being a father. He enjoyed laughing, playing, and loving his daughters. His love for music, ideally Hip-Hop, was often the backdrop for his dance parties with his girls. Erike loved to cook, especially barbequing. His ability to analyze, research, and debate was evident in his passion for entrepreneurship. His dreams for the future were big and bright like his smile.

Erike is survived by his beautiful daughters, Thalia and Tamryn; mother, Lenora Mayo; father, John Mayo (deceased); brother, Winfield; nephew, Mason; niece, Lola; partner Melissa Garcia; the mother of his children, Misha Yoshida; best friend, Paul Duggins; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
