Erik's obituary

Erik Visser, 42, of Sorrento, FL, passed away in the prime of his life on December 30, 2022 surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with an undisclosed illness.

Erik was born on September 03, 1980 to Larry and Kay Visser in Winter Park, FL. He was a boy's boy who grew to be a man's man. From a young age he was fascinated by critters and bugs. He was a natural with tools and all things mechanical. He loved playtime with his sister, Heather, whether they were playing her games or his. Erik was largely self-taught and self-guided, always confident he could do anything he set his mind to.

After Erik graduated from Lyman High School in 1999, he pursued certification in automotive technology at Seminole Community College.

After graduation, he worked as a service technician for several years. Erik was passionate about cars and loved what he did for a living, but left the work in search of something with better long term growth potential. He landed in the IT Department at Westgate Resorts where he made a career in software quality assurance and was eventually promoted to Software Quality Assurance Manager.

In 2012, he met Candice who also worked at Westgate Resorts at the time. Erik and Candice settled into a house down the street from his parents and went on to raise two precious children, step-daughter Haley and son Corey.

Tragically, Erik was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness in 2016. He fought mightily with Candice and Corey constantly by his side. But he eventually succumbed after exhausting all treatment options.

Erik was predeceased by paternal grandparents Clarence and Gertrude Visser and maternal grandfather Henry Louwsma. He is survived by his wife Candice, children Haley and Corey, parents Larry and Kay, sister Heather Whitehead, brother-in-law David Whitehead, nephews Samuel, Adam, and Joshua, and grandmother Ada Louwsma . A private family service will be held at Markham Woods Presbyterian Church on January 14, 2023 at 11:00am.
