Erik's obituary
Erik Magnuson, a computer engineer and resident of Cape Canaveral, FL died on March 21, 2022 at the age of 59.
He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 17, 1962 to Helmer and Vera Magnuson. After graduating from East Jefferson High School, Erik studied engineering at Georgia Tech and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of New Orleans. He married his high school sweetheart on April 12, 1986 and moved to Los Angeles, California. The couple also lived in Seattle, Washington before settling in Brevard County, Florida in 1993. He joined Ensco shortly after and applied his brilliant brain to making many of their contracts a success. His health forced him to stop that work, but he still watched every rocket launch on his trusty iphone.
Erik was an avid photographer and collector of cameras. Devoted to his wife, he patiently took her to quilts shows in Jacksonville, Orlando, Paducah, and Houston, and textile museums in D.C., Virginia, Kentucky, and California. At her urging, Erik even sewed his own small quilt. He loved to tell stories about the crazy, beautiful city of his birth, like watching a sunrise over the West Bank or playing in the toxic fog of a mosquito control truck.
Erik is survived by his wife, Madeleine; his sisters, Deborah Carpenter and Lisa Heithmar; his brother Olaf Magnuson and brother-in-law, David Carpenter; his niece and nephew, Savannah and Chase Carpenter, as well as his grand-nephews, Clay and Declan Carpenter.
Erik believed that memorial services were for the living, so no formal service will take place. But the next time you gather with friends and raise a glass or tell a joke, or better yet, capture a moment with a photograph, remember him and his legacy of dedication, loyalty, honor, and kindness.
If you’d like to honor his legacy, please make a donation to Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation in Erik's name.
