Erik's obituary
Erik James "Bubba" Childress, 34, passed away on February 22, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born in San Angelo, Texas, Erik faced a lifelong battle with kidney disease with unwavering strength and resilience. For more than 20 years of his life, he endured dialysis treatments, hospitalizations, and procedures with a determination that inspired all who knew him. When asked how he managed to keep going, Erik simply replied, "I'm a fighter." His fight is now over—no more pain, no more dialysis, no more long hospital stays.
Erik was deeply loved by many and left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. His kindness was infectious, his wit sharp, and his personality unforgettable. He had a deep passion for sports, particularly football and basketball, and was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos. Erik had an uncanny ability to analyze the game—if he had been a betting person, he could have made millions predicting plays, trades, and final scores with remarkable accuracy. His love for sports extended beyond just watching; he lived and breathed every aspect of the game.
Beyond sports, Erik found joy in video games like *World of Warcraft* and *Counter-Strike*, where his competitive spirit and strategic mind thrived. Whether discussing the latest game stats or engaging in friendly debates about sports predictions, Erik's enthusiasm was contagious.
Above all else, Erik cherished his family. Erik is survived by his father, James Childress and his wife Myrna; his brother, Kris Childress and his wife Mandie; his sister, Megan Childress, His paternal grandfather, David Childress; maternal grandmother, Bobbie Ballard; aunt Rhonda Cox and uncle and aunt Bob and April Childress. Erik was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Childress.
A memorial service will be held on March 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Woodland Church in San Antonio (15315 Huebner Rd., San Antonio, TX 78248) to celebrate Erik’s life, followed by fellowship at a nearby restaurant for those who wish to attend.
Erik’s heart was full of love for those around him—a heart of gold that will never be forgotten. Though his journey was not easy, he faced it with courage and honesty. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
