Erik's obituary

Erik Jon Carder, 15, passed away on February 20th, 2020. He is survived by mother Katherine Carder, sister Callie Carder, brothers Tyler and Alexander Carder, and many loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Erik was born on May 8, 2004 and was named after his fathers best friend, “Big” Eric, and mother and father both had brothers named Jon (John). He weighed only 4 lbs 10.7 oz and 18 inches long, born over 2 months premature. His parents knew right away just what a strong boy Erik would grow to be after only staying a mere 11 days in the Thunderbird Hospital NICU, where most babies have to stay until they reach their full gestation. Not Erik, he was ready to come home and teach his new Mommy just how much fun life had in store for them. Erik spent a lot of his toddler years at his grandma and grandpa’s house , Paul and Cris, while his Mom finished going to school. This was one of Erik’s very favorite places to be, if not with his parents.
His Mom and Grandma loved taking Erik shopping for the day and he was all too happy to oblige, even learning to walk while strolling through a department store, pushing his own stroller while anyone in his path giggled at such a sight to see.
Erik’s older sister, Callie. absolutely doted on her little brother and just loved holding him and feeding him his bottle. She would practice on her dollies and show her step-mom so she could try out her new tricks with Erik. She did have a tendency to be over concerned with his body temperature and liked to fill his bassinet with blankets.
When Erik finally became a big brother, there was not a prouder, more generous little boy around. Being a little bit smaller than other boys his age, he and brother Tyler were about the same size for many years and their Mommy and Grandma loved dressing them in identical clothing, often getting them confused as twins, even though there couldn’t be more opposite boys. Erik’s greatest wish was to be taller than his Mom, at 5’6” he surpassed her by 3 inches and he couldn’t have been more delighted.
Erik loved playing video games with his Uncle B and cousins Andrew and Matthew, when he wasn’t too busy Battling his brothers and while he may have taken delight in creating competition, he also enjoyed sharing advice and tips with his youngest brother Alex to help further him along in whatever game their favored at that time. As much as Erik enjoyed teasing Tyler and giving him a hard time, the 2 brothers were the best of friends.
After the 4 siblings endured the tragedy of losing their father, their bond only tightened as they were who would carry on their fathers memory.
Erik made friends everywhere he went, the ever social butterfly, and his life and memory will be carried on by his family and friends.
