Obituary of Eric Brian Simpson

Eric Brian Simpson, 50, of Centreville, VA, passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2024, in his home from unknown causes.

Eric was born on December 14, 1973, in Elmira, NY to Curtis and Mae Simpson. He grew up in Apalachin, NY and in Reston, VA and Manassas, VA. Eric graduated from Vestal Senior High School in Vestal, NY and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Stratford College in Northern Virginia. At the time of his passing, he was a valued employee of 6 years with Navy Federal Credit Union in Vienna, VA as an ISD Tech IV.

Eric had a big heart and an even bigger personality. His infectious smile lit up every room he entered. He excelled at both team and individual sports and loved to compete. Eric grew up playing basketball, baseball, and football and competed in both high school and recreational sports. In 1993, he became a Golden Gloves champion at just 19 years old. Eric also had a passion for bodybuilding. He was a national level NPC competitor and won numerous competitions and awards. Eric loved seeing others win, too. He trained other athletes in numerous sports, and helped many other people get in shape and live a better quality of life. Eric was most dedicated to coaching his children in their youth sports and competitively played against them regularly. He had a true skill and passion for coaching youth flag football and his teams won numerous Super Bowl championships. He loved hosting cookouts and spending time with his kids and his former wife Stephanie, who remained his best friend. Caesar, his emotional support pup, was his constant companion. He was a Christian and member of Fairfax Community Church in Fairfax, VA.

Eric is survived by his four children, Asia (Terrell) Huffaker of Endicott, NY; Erica Simpson of Richmond, VA; Jourdan Simpson of Centreville, VA; Jaedan Simpson of Centreville, VA; his former wife Stephanie Simpson of Centreville, VA; and his pup son Caesar Simpson of Centreville, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Grayson and Oliver Huffaker of Endicott, NY; his parents Curtis (Frances) Simpson of Summerville, SC and Mae Simpson of Endwell, NY; his siblings Kevin (Elexia) Simpson of Woodbridge, VA, Ramona Simpson of Binghamton, NY, and Kim Branch of Manassas, VA; his nephew Tyrone Heath II of Centreville, VA; and nieces Alisha Heath of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Rashae Alston of Manassas, VA and Zarria Togan of Manassas, VA. Along with a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Eric was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Butler and Mary Alice Simpson of Elmira, NY; his paternal uncle Clifford (Bobby) Simpson of St. Louis, MO, and his maternal grandparents Orange and Ruther Mae Handy of Daytona Beach, FL.

A celebration of life will be held on February 23, 2024, at 10:00am at Fairfax Community Church located at 11451 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030. Pastor Rod Stafford will officiate the service.
