Enrique's obituary

Enrique Eugene Centeno, age 51, passed away in his home on 11/06/2025. He was born on 04/05/1974 to Chire and Enrique Centeno in Lansing, Michigan where he was born and raised. Enrique attended Sexton High School prior to entering the workforce, mainly working in the food service industry.

Enrique loved to work on cars in his spare time. He often could be found under the hood of his Caprice or Camaro, working to make them faster and faster. While he was a loud, boisterous person, he also loved his music just as loud and rebellious. Metallica, ACDC, Pearl Jam, and Black Sabbath were often on his radio, and he loved to know every artist and quiz anyone around on who was playing. His personal passion was always feeding people; whether they entered his restaurant or his home, they never left hungry or complaining about bad food. He spent whatever free time he had with friends and family trying to rope them into pranks and general shenanigans.

He loved fast cars, loud music, good friends, and great food; but, more than anything, he loved his children. He fathered two children with long time partner April Thomas, and they helped raise two other non-biological daughters. His first adopted daughter, Tian Sheldon, passed away in November 2002 from chronic illness. His eldest daughter, Victoria Centeno, is a Registered Nurse. His youngest daughter, Emmaleigh Webb, is a caregiver and in school to become a teacher. His unofficially adopted daughter, Christina Ghere, works in the service industry and is starting her own business. His children were his pride and joy. He lived for them and loved them deeply, even when words failed him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Enrique Centeno, his best friend and sister, Rita Centeno-De Lazaro, adopted daughter, Tian Sheldon, his grandmother, Louise Potter, and, recently, his Uncle Juan. He is survived by his mother, Chire Centeno, his daughters, Victoria Centeno, Emmaleigh Webb, and Christina Ghere, his long-time partner, April Thomas, nieces, Tomi Thayer and Tayler Seyka, and nephew, Lorenzo Castilla.

Services for Enrique are being held privately. His remains will be laid to rest with his father and sister at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family is accepting donations for the cost of funeral services and cremation.
