Enid's obituary
Enid Scovil, 95, passed away on Friday May 3, 2024. She was born in San Francisco, CA to Winfield and Aldwyth Arata on Christmas Day 1928. She attended Lowell High School in San Francisco and later graduated from University of the Pacific where she earned a degree in Art. She went on to become an elementary school teacher in Salinas, CA.
It was at Lowell High that she met the love of her life, Doug Scovil. As the wife of a football coach for 40 years, she attended every single home game and took care of her family through several moves across the country, repeatedly up for the challenge of going to a new city and always proud of her husband.
Enid’s love for animals was a defining characteristic of hers since childhood - a love that she passed down to her 3 children and grandchildren. Over the years, she rescued and found homes for many animals, including several cats and dogs who became part of her own family, protested animal testing in labs for research, and was a volunteer for the Humane Society.
Very outgoing and social, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and driving around Saratoga in her beloved red BMW convertible. She loved tending to her favorite succulent plants, was always adding to her large shell collection, and had an amazing talent for Interior Design.
Enid is survived by her three children: Douglas Scovil Jr. of Florence, AZ, Randy Scovil (Tracy) of Arroyo Grande, CA, and Sara Scovil of Saratoga, CA along with four granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doug, sisters Mary and Patricia, and brother Winfield Arata Jr.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society Silicon Valley in Enid’s name.
