Enid's obituary
Enid Franklin Beaumont died in her sleep at the age of 92. Here is my remembrance of my only aunt.
Aunt Enid fostered my love of travel and embraced my son Christian. I think he reminded her of my dad that died way too young. She traveled to over 90 countries. A highlight of her career was working for the Macedonian government on setting up fair and democratic public administration. She was also a professor at Georgetown university, and a leader in the world of public policy in DC. She lived a long life with many interests. She adored photography, football( mainly the former Redskins), politics, museums, art and design, being with her close friends, and the Chesapeake area. I didn’t know her very well growing up, but after my dad’s early death , she reached out to me and became a real aunt. She could be cantankerous and difficult at times but I only have gratitude for how she took me into her fold and loved on my son and I. Her health, both physically and mentally declined these last few years and I think the isolation of the Covid shut down accelerated her decline.
I do not know much about her early life and career. What I know is that she was born in Los Angeles. She was very studious and excelled in school. She also enjoyed being in theater. She adored her older brother Robert and maintained a loving relationship with him throughout his life. I’m not sure of how she met her husband Richard Beaumont .I believe he was a Naval officer at the time. They married and he was sent to Honolulu after World War II . She enjoyed the islands and invited her brother Robert , (who had just finished law school at UCLA) to visit. He fell in love with Honolulu and stayed for his career and life.
Enid and Richard later moved to New York City and worked at building their careers there. They later moved to Washington DC where Enid became involved with the creation of fair policies for state and local government systems.
She and Richard divorced and she stayed in Washington DC .She got her Doctorate in Political Science and became involved in many political organizations that she enjoyed immensely.
She developed close friendships with some families over the years…. the Wills family, the Goos, the Jankas,, the Benjamin’s, among others.
She enjoyed living in her Georgetown apartment for many years and spending weekends at her beach place on the Chesapeake Bay.
I am thankful for the many good times we shared. I was able to visit her often over the years and she came to see me in Alaska. We often laughed at the time she startled a Bull moose during rutting season on a walk we took! I have never seen anyone run so fast in my life. I also feel a tad guilty because I made her go on a sand rail ATV in the dunes of Oregon. I think her back started to fail after that . However, she still wanted to travel and find more adventures!
Peace and love to Aunty Enid. You really had an amazing life! Vicki Franklin Wolfe
