Matchie's obituary

The worst day of loving someone is the day that you lose them. No truer statement can be made in regard to this sorrowful event. On February 10, 2021, the pandemic claimed another casualty. Emma “Matchie” Inciong Tagaro, succumbed to the rigors of this affliction. Although this pandemic is known for its isolation and coldness on how it takes its victims, we could take comfort in the fact that prior to her last breath, she was surrounded by loved ones, who expressed their longingness either virtually or in person while she was isolated in Riverside University Hospital, striving for each gasp.
Born on June 30th, 1942 in Batangas, Philippines, by Ruperto and Cresencia Inciong, she is the third child of 11, Rogelio, Teodoro, Edgardo, Leticia, Florante (deceased), Ester, Oscar, Josefino, Ruperto Jr. and Wilma. Graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Arts in Conservatory of Music where she met her lifetime partner Alexander Tagaro. They started their lifelong adventure at the Santisimo Rosario Parish Church on June 21, 1972 at 7am (who does that?). Soon after, bore two loving children, Katherine, and Augustine aka “Peebs”. They moved to Chicago in April of 1990 and eventually established their lives in California and the rest is history. Matchie is leaving behind her husband of 49 years and two children, as well as a flamboyant son-in-law, Ran, a charismatic daughter-in-law, Dee, and 4 grandchildren, athletic Coach Alexis, creative Kassy, artistic Phoebe and adorable Noah, as well as an abundance of friends and family.
There are several adjectives you could place on the hats Matchie donned in her life. She was a doting daughter, the sassy sister, devoted wife, loving mother, the dancing Mama, comedic aunt, and the Piano Teacher. She was creative and artistic. All these adjectives relate to one substance that describes Matchie’s approach to life, “herself”. Once she put her mind to something, she approached it with unwavering passion and without fear in a way only she would do. From graduating as a pianist, to marrying Alexander, to uprooting her life in the Philippines to establish a life in the US, and even up to her last hour, she did it her way.
We are here in Costa Mesa, California at Harbor Lawn – Mt. Olive Memorial Park on February 27, 2021, not only to say goodbye to Matchie but to celebrate all that she has accomplished and the virtues that she left behind.
