Emily's obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Emily Anne (Nitz) Woods, 54, on January 15, 2025. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones. Emily was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and incredible strength touched the lives of all who knew her.

Emily was the beloved daughter of Don and Joanne (Nedoba) Nitz, born and raised in Holland, Michigan, where she spent her childhood riding horses and developing a love for all things equestrian. A talented and accomplished woman, Emily’s smile could light up any room, and her presence was a gift to all who knew her.

Emily’s dedication to her passions began early in life. After graduating from West Owatta High School in 1987, she went on to claim the U.S. National Saddle Seat Equitation Championship in 1988, an achievement that marked the start of many accomplishments to come. She furthered her education at the University of Kentucky and later transferred to Rollins College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Emily was diagnosed with Scleroderma in 1999 and battled this chronic disease for the remainder of her life. Emily served as the President of the Texas Bluebonnet Chapter of the National Scleroderma Foundation from 2012-2013. She was very involved with this foundation and volunteered often to help provide a loving impact to those with similar needs. Her passion for life was evident in everything she did, and her presence was one of unwavering love and encouragement.

In 2002, Emily’s greatest joy arrived when she and Kevin Woods became the parents of their beautiful daughter, Emma. Emily, a fierce and loving mother, had an unbreakable bond with Emma and was filled with an abundance of love, laughter, and shared memories. Emily was also deeply devoted to her family, leaving behind her loving mother, Joanne (Nedoba) Nitz,; brother, Kryn Nitz; and her cherished daughter, Emma, along with many brokenhearted relatives, including aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceded in death by her father, Don Nitz, in 2019, Emily’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew her. Her spirit, strength, and kindness were a source of inspiration to many, and her sense of humor and resilience will never be forgotten. Emily’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and the importance of family; her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

We find comfort in knowing that Emily’s soul rests in peace and that her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. May her light continue to shine through the lives she so profoundly impacted.

Rest in peace, Emily. Your smile, love, and legacy live on forever in our hearts. You will be missed but never forgotten.
