Emily P. Ulmer: One Magnificent Woman!
Margaret Emily Popp Ulmer, 90 of Cockeysville died Monday March 29, 2021 at the Masonic Home of Maryland, Cockeysville.
Born February 19, 1931 in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late William McKinley Popp Sr. and Violet V. (Duckworth) Popp. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers: William M Popp, Jr., Robert L. Popp, Joseph Glenn Popp and 3 sisters: Violet Elizabeth Popp, V. Marlene Popp, Carol Anne Popp.
She graduated with a Masters of Education and Church Administration from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, LA. She was very involved in her church serving many positions as well as being the pastor’s wife. She served as president of the Maryland State Women’s Missionary Union and the president of the United Baptist Women of Maryland. She also worked for the state of Maryland first as a social worker and then in administration until she retired.
Emily was a fun loving open hearted woman and welcomed everyone into her home as part of the family. There was always room for one more. She was a loving, devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Emily is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Rev. Elwood L. Ulmer, Sr., five children: Emily Michelsen, Susan Copenhaver, Victoria Mottram, Elwood Ulmer, Jr., Frank Ulmer, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one sister Judy Vasser of Virginia.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 24, 2021 at 12:00pm at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church 1010 Saters Lane, Lutherville MD 21093 with Pastor Don Klapka, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Wo-Me-To, attn. Emily P. Ulmer Memorial, P.O. 160, 1200 Knopp Road, Jarrettsville, Maryland 20184. There will also be a contribution box available at the memorial service.
