Emil's obituary
Emil was born in East Chicago, Indiana on December 27, 1954 to Filomena Chamorro Colon and Miguel Antonio Mariani. Emil is preceded in death by his parents, uncle Carlos Mariani and brothers-in-law Efrain Deleon and Art Hutsenpillar.
At Horace Mann High School in Gary Indiana, Emil was an honor student and lettered in track, cross country & wrestling, graduating in 1973. He received an academic scholarship to University of Chicago & graduated in 1977. Emil had a successful career in publishing and banking. Always willing to help others, Emil was named Volunteer of the Year for Shalom House for his work in computer literacy education with homeless women. He started the computer ministry at 1st UMC and reconditioned over 500 computers that were donated to those without computer access.
A dedicated Chicago White Sox and Bears fan, Emil was a fanatical bicycle rider and master brewer at “Mariani Brewing: Damn Good Beer!”
Emil is survived by his wife, Karen Scully-Mariani, and children Matthew (Whitney) Mariani and Sarah Mariani (Andres Pena). He is also survived by his brothers, sisters & in-laws: Carlos Miguel (Elva) Mariani; Lucy Mariani; Carmen Gloria Mariani DeLeon; Domingo (Joanne) Mariani; Julie Morales; Rudy Morales; Carlos Juan (Amy) Mariani; Fernando (Michaeline) Florek; Margie (Willie) Pagan, Angie Hutsenpillar; Janie & Kevin Scully. He is also survived by his step-mother Jocelyn Maldonado and parents-in-law Bill & Marie Scully. He will be missed by his aunt Carmen Mariani Rosa and cousins Carlos (Caritza), Jose, Linda Mariani & Annette (Tony) Gonzalez. Emil was blessed with so many nieces, nephews, chosen family and friends who felt like family we cannot list them here.
A celebration of life will be held in late May, details to follow. As requested, Emil was cremated, his ashes will be scattered later this summer on Lake Michigan in a private ceremony. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Brain Tumor Association in memory of Emil:
