Elyssa's obituary

Whenever we hear that an accident takes place in the middle of the night, we think the worst. We imagine someone who’s either under the influence or overtired losing control of their car. That’s not always the case though. This morning, a single car accident takes the life of an 18-year old girl. The single-car crash happened on California State Route 273. A man driving a Grey 2015 Nissan Altima was traveling Westbound with a female passenger in the car. At about 3:30 am, the driver lost control of the car and that is where things took a turn for the worst. Jacob Harvey, the man driving the Nissan, lost control and his car left the road onto the shoulder. It then hit a ditch and crashed into a tree, ultimately flipped over and injuring both the driver and the passenger, his sister. Harvey told authorities that he was trying to avoid hitting a deer right before the accident. Thankfully for Harvey's sake, his injuries were only minor. He was taken to the Medical Center in Redding, California and is expected to make a full recovery. Sadly, the same can’t be said for the passenger, 18-year old Elyssa Harvey. When the car flipped over, Elyssa suffered life-threatening injuries. She was taken to the hospital but died as soon as she got there.

Elyssa left behind a family, me, her mother, her devoted father Jamal, her loving brother's Malachi and Jacob, and her best friend, her boyfriend Johnny. Our little girl had a promising, fulfilling future... No longer to be fulfilled. She left us unexpected. It breaks are heart to lose her, yet she did not go alone, for pieces of us went with her the morning God called our babygirl home. I hope we can remember the memories she left us, her laugh, her presence... Sadly that's all left. We loved her in life, and in death will do the same. As every May 25th comes around, we will take the day to remember her name.
We miss you my kaikamahine nani...
