Elwood's obituary
Elwood Earl Pomar Jr., 73, of Orange Park, Florida passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024. He was born on December 16, 1950 in Saint Augustine, Florida to Elwood and Easter (Scaff) as the second of two children.
From the tender age of 9, Earl began his musical journey with piano lessons, and this passion grew exponentially, becoming one of his greatest joys throughout his life. In his school years, Earl was a versatile individual, contributing to the football team, chorus, scouts, and even a Rock 'n Roll band. After graduating from Saint Augustine High School, he served with honor in the United States Marine Corps and later became a dedicated Highway Patrol Officer.
On June 9, 1979, Earl married his sweetheart, Cindy, at First Baptist Church in Gainesville, FL. They shared a remarkable 44-year journey together and were blessed with three children - Michael, Cynthia, and Christopher. Family vacations were a highlight each year which usually consisted of exploring the mountains, going to caverns, playing mini-golf, air hockey, go karts, and swimming.
Earl’s professional life was marked by success as an admired manager and top salesman for many years. He was a football enthusiast and a devoted Florida Gators fan. He loved watching reruns of his favorite TV shows and listening to anything from the 60’s. He found joy in attending classic car shows and in his younger years, he won a few racing trophies with the Chevy Novas he owned.
Earl’s sense of humor was a hallmark of his personality. His witty and dry dad jokes, along with playful pranks, brought laughter to everyone around him. Beyond the mischief, Earl was a devoted husband, father, papa, and friend. His genuine care for his family and close friends was unmatched, always showcasing his unconditional love.
In honoring Earl’s life, may we remember the undeniable man he was, his faith, the beautiful music he played, the laughter he shared, and his deep love for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Cindy of Orange Park, FL, sons David Pomar of St. Augustine, FL (Marion), Michael Pomar of Burlington, NC (Brittany), Christopher Pomar of Middleburg, FL (Jessica), and daughter Cynthia Murray of Ooltewah, TN (Adam), grandchildren Natalie, Rosemary, & Miranda Pomar, Adan, Evan, Adrian, Aria, & Alexander Pomar, Jacob & Violet Murray, and Rylan & Brynnan Pomar.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2pm at Oak Hill Church 4151 Old Middleburg Rd N, Jacksonville, FL 32210, with military honors.
