Elwood Lee Jennings, 91, of Roanoke, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 17, 2003. Mr. Jennings was affectionately known as "Papa Jennings", "Script", and "Ikie" to those who knew and loved him. He was employed with Norfolk and Western Railway and was a retired supervisor for the City of Roanoke. Also, a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WW II and was involved in the invasion of Normandy. He was a longtime member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church where he was active in the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the National Railroad Historical Society, VFW, and the American Legion. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Jennings Beard; father, Fitzhugh Lee Jennings; son, Donald E. Jennings; sisters, Virgie J. Norman and Blanche J. Brookman; brothers, Melvin R. Jennings, James G. Jennings, and Marvin E. Jennings. Survivors include his wife of 66 1 / 2 years, Rosa Webb Jennings; sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Carol Jennings of Knoxville, Tenn., Richard and Rachel Jennings of Roanoke; and a daughter, Dottie Atkinson of Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Shirley Jennings of Knoxville, Tenn.; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Elbert P. and Dorothy Jennings of Roanoke; and sister, Geneva Noble and husband, "Ick" of Portsmouth, Va. The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Hiles, Jr. and the 8 t h floor nursing staff at Community Hospital for their love and care given to Mr. Jennings and his family during his illness. Funeral services will be conducted at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church Thursday, November 20, 2003, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Tom Stocks officiating. Interment to follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Lotz Roanoke Chapel.
