My only regret is not ever having met my cousin Elton. He sounds like someone it would have been my pleasure to have enjoyed knowing. I loved reading about his sweet life. He seems to have had a signature Cowles sense of humor I recognize from that side of my family. My sincere condolences to his friends and family. I am Martha Ann Cowles' granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of Martha Ann's parents, James Cornelius Cowles and Martha Adeline England.

Thank you Mary for posting this obituary so all of the family and friends can share some of our favorite moments and stories.

Grandpa Al truly was an admirable man. When I think about many of my happiest memories as a child,  he is present in them.  I will never forget how excited I would be to see him every school day at the crosswalk in front of our elementary school. Even though I would see him everyday at home, there was something so extra special about him crossing us to safety every morning and afternoon on schooldays.  I would watch the clock when the end of the school day was nearing and counted down the minutes till I was able to run out to him. I wanted to be the first one out to see him before any other kids could get there. I would run as fast as I could so he could chat with me and cross me first before anyone else.  I am so thankful that my son got to attend Cabello as well and will forever have the same special memories that I did growing up.

I will never forgot our trips to the park … all 3 grandchildren packed like sardines in the radio flyer wagon, pulled to and fro by grandpa. He always had time for us and loved to see us happy and smiling.

I will never forgot his signature milkshakes (with raw eggs 🤢) that we loved! Also, our favorite, fun breakfast, “egg in a picture frame”.

You would never have known he had a tough childhood. Being orphaned and growing up without his birth family and without shoes that fit. While some would struggle after such a sad and uncertain upbringing, he truly embraced the family he created and made his life about love and togetherness, appreciating daily, everything he had been blessed with.

Grandpa will always hold a special place in heart and my memories. I hope he is somewhere in heaven enjoying all the desserts he can eat!
