Elsie's obituary

Elsie was born in Reagan, Texas, on June 16, 1937 and passed away May, 20 2024 in Flower Mound, Texas, at the age of 86, surrounded by her beloved family.

Born Elsie Marie Bryant, Elsie was the fourth of five siblings. She grew up in the Waco area and graduated from Waco High in 1955 where she was voted “most popular” by her senior class.

On July 18, 1959 she married Wilbur Chapman Morris Jr. (Will), a corporal in the US Marine Corps. Will’s service took them first to California and then to Honolulu, Hawaii, where they welcomed their first son, Wilbur C. Morris, III.

Will’s 30-year career with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration moved their family, now grown to include Michael Bryant and Drewry Wade, to Edmond, Oklahoma, and Washington D.C., as well as all over Texas. Though she was happiest wherever her family was, Elsie was a Texas girl at heart and always felt most at home in the Lone Star State.

Throughout her life Elsie worked in education administration. She was a member of the Community of Christ, spending several decades at the Richardson, Texas, branch, where she served in the priesthood and made many lifelong friends.

Elsie enjoyed watching movies and rooting for her Texas teams, dining out at restaurants, shopping with her granddaughters, doing daily crossword puzzles and playing Wordle. But most of all, she enjoyed being together with her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Will, her father and mother, Johnnie and Thelma, her brothers, Buddy and Bobby, and her sister, June.

She is survived by her sister, Katie, her three sons, Trey, Mike and Drew, four granddaughters, Lauren, Katie, Haley and Danae, and three great-grandchildren, Jalen, River and Scarlett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie was an admirable woman and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered with great fondness and sorely missed by all.

Elsie donated her body to UT Southwestern Medical School for research and study. A memorial service will be held at the Community of Christ, 602 South Grove Road in Richardson, Texas, 75081 on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 2 p.m.
