Elsie's obituary
Mrs. Coons was born as Elsie Catherine Hasbrouck in Hollister, California on September 15, 1916. She attended local schools and moved to Sacramento and graduated from Healds Business College. She was employed by the Woodruff Seed Company of Sacramento for 10 years as a seed analyst and office manager.
In 1946 she married naval Commander Virgil N. Pullen and they had 3 children: James Pullen of Helena, Montana; Kathie Pullen of Paso Robles, California; and Gregg Pullen of Coarsegold, California. They owned and operated V.N. & E.C. Pullen Trucking for 14 years in southern California, and she was employed by Dr. Web Wilson in Watsonville, California as a medical assistant for 12 years. Her husband Virgil Pullen passed away in 1981 after 35 years of marriage. She then returned to live in Hollister, California.
In 1985, she married Guy F. Coons and they lived in Apple Valley, Hollister, Santa Maria, Arroyo Grande, and Paso Robles, California. Her husband Guy Coons passed away in 2002 after a short illness. She then moved to Helena, Montana to be closer to children and grandchildren.
Elsie is survived by her children, James Pullen of Helena, Montana, Kathie Pullen of Paso Robles, California, Gregg Pullen of Coarsegold, California, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by 8 stepchildren, Mary Pullen of Helena, Montana, Guy Coons Jr. of Bellingham, Washington, Anne Duzik of Scappoose, Oregon, Susan Kaysinger of Port Ludlow, Washington, Jane Schue of Portland, Oregon, Joan Junge of Dillingham, Alaska, Vicki Coons of Port Angeles, Washington, and Brian Coons of West Linn, Oregon.
Per Elsie’s wishes only a family celebration of life is planned for at this time. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Weiner, the entire oncology staff and Hospice at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Elsie had a special place in her heart for children and was very involved with the children in the Helena community, and an annual participant in the Festival of Trees for Intermountain Children’s Home.
