Ellis's obituary

Ellis Lee Allen passed away peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2021 at the age of 75 years in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ellis, known to most as “Booboo”, was born on April 2, 1946 to parents Willie and Beatrice (Jones) Allen in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At 12 years old, Ellis’ mom took him to an International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he was amazed at the love shown between all the different nationalities and he left believing “this must be the organization that Jehovah approves”. This planted the seed which continued to be watered over the years. After leaving Schenley High School in 1963 he served in the United States Army. After his discharge in 1968, he learned to be a ”jack of all trades”.

In the winter of 1969, Ellis met the love of his life Gloria aka “Glo” while shopping at Kaufmann’s Department Store. On May 31, 1970 they were married and went on to raise their only son, Troy.  Also, in 1970 he joined his brother John in opening Allen’s Discount in Homewood-Brushton, Pennsylvania. Ellis was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness at the International Convention in July 1973. Eventually he went to work for the Port Authority of Allegheny County in maintenance until 1985 and finally retired to North Las Vegas, Nevada in 2006.

Ellis loved the account of Jonah and his favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5,6

“Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, And do not rely on your own understanding.  In all your ways take notice of him, And he will make your paths straight.”

Ellis always relied on Jehovah and many decisions in his life were based upon that scripture including becoming a ministerial servant. Ellis enjoyed the ministry especially when he was able to take the group out, he loved being responsible for the friends. He was always hospitable, and it was not uncommon to see him in the kitchen, cooking up a storm for his friends and family. While everything he cooked was delicious, he would get special requests for his ginger chicken, quiches and ribs. And if you were ever offered a sandwich by Ellis, you knew it was no ordinary sandwich.

There wasn’t a baby or dog that was not drawn to him, even through Zoom. There was nothing he would not do to help anyone in need, and he was extremely generous. And we all know that he was Ernestine’s baby brother.

One of his favorite places to visit was the “Spa of Gloria” where he got his regular service which included a haircut, a head massage, his back scratched and a deluxe pedicure. Somehow, he was always able to get an appointment.

Ellis also loved fishing, nature, being outdoors, biking, shooting pool, listening to jazz, and rooting for the black & gold. But most of all he loved Jehovah.

Ellis was predeceased by his parents Willie & Beatrice, his sister Doris (Allen) Bell aka “Nooni” and his sister Juanita (Allen) Olivo aka “Yeye”.

Ellis is survived by his beautiful wife of 51 years, Gloria (Williams); he was the proud father of his son Troy and his wife Jaqqi; the loving brother to John Allen aka “Poochie” and his wife Thelois, and Ernestine (Allen) Morris aka “Sis” and her husband Doug; He was cherished by his extended family Richard and Lenora Frazier, Arlen and Earlene Thompkins, Chris & Lorraine Elam, Karen Eaglin, Stephanie Eaglin, Jennifer Eaglin, Robert and Deedee Jones, Tim and Debbie Ghee, Marvin Haywood, Wayne Ballard, Ron Settles, Randall and Ethel McCloud, Gene and Jane Gibson, Jaylen Gibson, Christine Shirley, Arnetta O’Neal, Alexis Williams, Martha Wilson, Sabrina and Derwin Evans, Terrance and Sherelle Wood, and Lydia Pool. Ellis will forever be remembered by many other family members and friends.
