Ellie's obituary

Ella Wayne (Ellie) Clark Brown

(04-03-1933 - 02-01-2022)

Ellie Brown passed away peacefully, February 1, 2022, at her beloved home at the beach in Turtle Shores, surrounded by her family, songbirds and a sparkling sky!

Ella Wayne Clark was born to Ethel Mae Rutland and William Alexander Clark of Mount Olive, Mississippi on April 3, 1933. Both of her parents preceded her in death, as well as her sister, Billie Clark Lack, and brother, Ben G. Clark.

Ellie grew up in Gulfport, MS and graduated from Gulfport High School where she was a class leader, cheerleader and basketball player. Ellie received a degree from Perkinston Junior College where she attended on a basketball scholarship and studied psychology. Ellie married Julius H. Brown, Jr January 29, 1954 with whom she raised four children in Mobile, Alabama.

After raising her family, Ellie created a number of successive careers in interior decorating and community services, and continued to serve her community through volunteer and Board roles for decades. She took great pride in creating her home and garden that served as a ‘sanctuary’ where family and friends could retreat for days or weeks.

Through life’s celebrations and tragedies, Ellie conveyed faith, optimism and intention, and led a full and vibrant life throughout her final years. She enjoyed regular visits with her family, including nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The last year of her life she was assisted by Agena Regis, her healthcare aide, whom she loved as a daughter.

Ellie is survived by two daughters, Deborah Brown Reeve of Naples, FL and Suzanne Brown Graham, of Ponte Vedra, FL and son-in-law, Clark Graham; six grandchildren, Courtney Reeve of Miamia Beach, FL; Garrison Murphey of St. Louis, MO, Bryan Graham and Nick Graham of St. Augustine, FL; Tyler Reeve of Nashville, TN, and Sarah Brown Backes of Destin, FL; three granddaughters in-law, Meghan Murphey, Krutzchenka Miller and Ashley Reeve; one grandson in-law, Byron Backes; and eight great-grandchildren. Ellie was preceded in death by her husband, Julius H Brown, Jr; her son,

J Brent Brown; her daughter, Julie Welch; son-in-law, Michael Welch; and two grandchildren, Jesse Welch and Hannah Welch.

In keeping with Ellie’s wishes, a private “Celebration of Life” is planned July 3, 2022 at the beach, with family and close friends.

Special recognition and gratitude are expressed to B & E Home Healthcare for their love and care; her “dream team” at Brooks Home Healthcare and Rehabilitation; Council On Aging, St. Augustine, for helping Ellie age in place in her lovely home; and to Community Hospice & Palliative Care of St Augustine for their special guardianship.
