Kip's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ellen "Kip" Hogan, who peacefully left us on August 2, 2024.
Ellen Joan Kipness (Kip) was born November 24, 1945 in Atlantic City to Mollie and Sam Kipness, owners of a liquor store in the Chelsea section of the city which was primarily black. She had a brother Marc who was 7 years older. She had extended family in the city which was pretty Jewish back then including her mother's sister and brother and their families as well as her grandmother Rose from Russia who used to be a chef in the old country and made far-out strudel, kreplach, cinnamon buns and stuffed cabbage. She also has two male cousins in DC. Ellen graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1962 and finished a couple of semesters at Rutgers University. Her mother died when Ellen was 13, big blow to her. She was left with her father who was partially paralyzed after being beaten during a robbery at the liquor. He was abusive so Ellen fled when she could. Her brother Marc fled the father early too and ended up in the military in (West) Germany from most of his life with a German wife and son Michael who is Ellen's only nephew. (No nieces.) Ellen did lots of jumping around among relatives, then her brief college years and a long term relationship with a guy in Seattle during the 70s and marriage to Ernie for less than 10 years from late 70s into the 80s. They lived in Orange County. They split up and he moved to Georgia and she stayed in SoCal.
Kip will always be remembered for her vivacious spirit and love of life. Although her departure leaves many saddened, we find solace in celebrating the rich and full life she led.
Kip was an illuminating presence who touched the lives of those around her with her warmth, kindness, and unforgettable laugh. She was a beacon of joy, radiating light onto others and fostering an environment of inclusivity and love. Kip's enduring legacy is a testament to the remarkable woman she was.
In honoring Kip, a Celebration of Life will be held on August 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Westminster Community Playhouse, 7272 Maple Street, Westminster CA 92683. Here, we will come together not only to grieve her loss but also to celebrate her incredible journey and the profound impact she had on our lives.
As we prepare to bid our final farewell to Kip, we kindly request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to "Fundraiser for the Celebration of Life to Kip!" at www.everloved.com/life-of/ell…. This is a request that Kip would have wanted, as she always preferred celebrating life over mourning death.
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered support during this challenging time. Your love, prayers, and kindness have truly been a comforting balm. While Kip may no longer be with us physically, her memory will forever enrich our minds and hearts.
