Elizabeth's obituary
Elizabeth Overton was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, retired counselor and educator, and friend. She left this world on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the age of 79, only two months after receiving a cancer diagnosis. Her absence has left an enormous void in the lives of those closest to her.
Elizabeth, known as Liz, “Libeth”, Ann, mom, Memaw, and Aunt Liz, was devoted to her family and loved deeply. She married her husband of 62 years in 1959. She received her bachelor’s degree from University of Arkansas at Little Rock. After many years as a teacher, she went back to school and received her master’s degree from Henderson State University. She spent the next 16 years as an elementary school counselor. She was passionate about education and cared deeply for her students.
She lived an active life, enjoyed camping, traveling, experiencing all of God’s work. When she learned of her diagnosis, she said she had lived a full life and was ready. She donated her body to medical science and the education of healthcare providers through Genesis Legacy Whole Body Donation Foundation, continuing her passion for education.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christine and Loyce Sowell, her brothers, Loyce Jr., Charles, and Billy Sowell, her nephew, Monte Sowell, her stepdad, PJ Fulmer, and her Brother-in-Law, Jackie Overton.
