Elizabeth's obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Hewitt passed away Sunday morning, September 24, 2023, from the Fairmount Assisted Living home in Tucson, Arizona; she was 92. A lifelong Catholic, Betty lived a life of service and social activism, marching for equal rights in the 1960s through her recent involvement with "No More Deaths" of southern Arizona. She also loved camping, skiing, and hiking, as well as playing the piano and leading church music.
She is survived by her spouse, Neil C. Hewitt, and her eight children: Mary (Jim) Cowan, Susan (Karl) Kranz, Patricia Philbin, Kathleen (Ron) van Ommeren, Nancy Bertolas, Robert (Deanna) Philbin, Therese Tice, Peggy (Pat) Navin, plus 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The Most Holy Trinity parish in Tucson will hold a funeral mass for Betty at 10:00 a.m. on November 3, 2023, with a rosary service the same day at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the St. Joseph Indian School or "No More Deaths."
