Betty's obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Hernes, 79, of Holiday, FL, passed away on April 20, 2022 after a short but brave battle with cancer.
Betty was born on January 2nd, 1943 to Austin and Mary Johnson in Hartford, CT, alongside her fraternal twin brother Bob.
In 1961, Betty met George Hernes after being introduced by her brother. They were married shortly thereafter and had two children.
Betty made a career out of two of her greatest passions, cooking, and children. In her younger years she worked as a chef in a local steakhouse and eventually became a nanny, working for two wonderful families in long-term positions. In 2006, she retired with George and moved to Holiday, FL into the beautiful Lake Conley community where she made many dear friends and truly enjoyed every minute of retirement.
Betty was an extremely creative and kind woman, who brought a smile to the face of everyone she met. In addition to spending time with her family and beloved pets, she enjoyed cooking, camping, spending time by the water, and playing cards and mahjong.
Betty is survived by her husband George, her daughter Virginia and son-in-law Richard, her granddaughters - Jennifer D'Amico, her husband Daniel D'Amico and great-grandson John D'Amico and Allison Celadon, her husband Garrett Celadon and her great-granddaughter Gabriella Celadon, her granddaughter Madeline Genovese and grandson Matthew Hernes and her sister-in-law, Helaine Johnson.
She has been reunited with her parents, her brothers Bob and Bill Johnson, her niece Avis Johnson along with many other relatives, and all of her dogs - Inky, Bruce, Taco, Barney and Rosie.
There will be a small service for immediate family members only. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Best Friends Animal Society.
