Betsy's obituary

Henley, Elizabeth "Betsy" Hyde On June 30, 2021, Elizabeth (Betsy) Henley took her last breath, concluding her nine-year battle with breast cancer. She fought the cancer as a fearless soldier, not conceding, brave until the end. Betsy is survived by her husband, Joel D. Henley and two daughters Megan J. Henley and Alison J. (Allie) Henley. One might never have known that Betsy was actively fighting breast cancer and advances in cancer research likely increased Betsy's life over six years. Despite a valiant effort, the breast cancer won when it started to invade her spine and brain lining a year ago. Betsy was surrounded by her loving family, as she made her peaceful and painless passage into heaven. Heartland Hospice and MN Oncology were of immeasurable help in her journey and helped our family immensely. Betsy was born on May 19, 1955, in Hibbing, Minnesota to Neil Claude Hyde and Jean Marie Prescott Hyde, both deceased. Betsy received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism at the University of Minnesota. She married Joel on October 2, 1982, in Hibbing, MN. Fun was had by all as both Betsy and her mother Jean knew how to throw a proper party. Betsy was a Professional Volunteer Extraordinaire, as dubbed by her husband, Joel. She had a sharp wit, which was well appreciated. She volunteered for any charitable cause that needed help. Betsy served meals for Crisis Nursery, Battered Children's homes and to the poor and homeless. Betsy had a disabled daughter that led her into service to the disabled. Betsy co-chartered the West Metro Warriors with Mark and Kim Kelsey, which has grown to several hundred members. She had significant involvement with Clownfish Swim Club, Best Buddies program, Bridging Hearts friendship group and ARC, and actively volunteered with St. David's School and the Parables Group at Wayzata Community Church. She coordinated events and volunteers for innumerable meals and events at Wayzata Community Church as well as scores of events at Special Olympics sports and Adapted Sports. Betsy had four siblings including Neil C. Hyde, Jr. (deceased), James P. (Jimmy) Hyde, Mary F. Hyde, and William G. (Bill) Hyde (deceased). Also surviving are her father-in law, Gerald D. Henley, and her brothers-in-law, David S. Henley, and Paul S. Henley (Racqueline). Additionally, Betsy left nephews and nieces with grandnephews and grandnieces, Travis (Sharon) Hyde; Barbara and Kenneth Hyde; Molly and Gustavus Hulin; Scott (Natalie), Shana and Erica (Daniel); and Victoria, Micah and Katrina Henley. Betsy will be interred at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. A "Heavens to Betsy" Celebration will follow soon. Betsy did not want any of us to cry on her passing; she wanted a celebration. Notification will follow later.
