Elizabeth's obituary
Elizabeth “Betty” (Doherty) Farina, of Salem, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Doherty, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025. Cremation has taken place.
She was the beloved wife of the late Santo “Sam” Farina, with whom she shared 33 years of marriage.
Betty graduated from Salem High School in 1964. After graduation, she worked at John Hancock for four years as head receptionist in the personnel department. She later worked at a dental office in Salem, Massachusetts, followed by a nursery school.
For the love of children, she served as a Cub Scout leader and Brownie leader, welcomed her children’s friends into her home with warmth and treats, and cared for a child in need for a period of time.
In retirement, she and her husband enjoyed life in The Villages, Florida. Betty was active with the Red Hat Society and delighted in cooking, entertaining friends, and enjoying music and dancing. She also took continuing education classes and treasured shopping and lunches with friends.
She is survived by her children: Joseph Seward, Cheryl Pieri (Seward), and Gayle Pado (Farina) and her husband Dan; her grandchildren: Patrick Pieri, Samuel Pieri, and Christian Pado; her brother-in-law, Thomas Farina; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and many friends.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
