Betsy's obituary

Elizabeth “Betsy” Ann Jenkins (Beacham) passed away on February 2, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi, and is in the presence of the Lord whom she served faithfully. Born on December 5, 1947, in Auburn, Alabama, Betsy dedicated her life to education and the enrichment of young minds.

Betsy graduated from Cooper High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi, before continuing her studies at Mississippi University for Women and later at Jackson State University for a master’s in education. Her passion for learning led to a lifelong career as an educator throughout central Mississippi. Betsy ultimately retired as principal of Carthage Elementary, leaving a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike.

Betsy is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Gerald Jenkins; sons, Marc Bitner (Kelsey) and Chris Bitner (Cori); stepsons, Todd Jenkins and Tyson Jenkins (Joy); and brother, Bob Beacham (Tonya). She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Emma Beacham; sister, Barbara Thompson; and stepson, Tim Jenkins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Old Rice Road Baptist Church in Madison, Mississippi. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the service at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Old Rice Road Baptist Church would be greatly appreciated. Betsy’s dedication to education, church, and community will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
