Elisabeth's obituary

Elisabeth White Chase, of Dallas, PA, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on August 8, 2020 with her family by her side in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Beth was born in Bronxville, NY to Hugh Edward White Jr. and Sara Julia Caine. After attending public schools in New Rochelle, NY she graduated from Mount Holyoke College in Hadley, MA where she majored in Latin and Minored in music. She received a secretarial degree from The Berkeley School and she earned her Masters Degree in Social Work from Fordham College.

Beth worked as a parish secretary at St. John's Episcopal Church in Larchmont, NY and as a licensed clinical social worker at Family & Children's Agency in Norwalk, CT and Operation Hope in Fairfield, CT.

She loved to perform both as a comedienne and as a professional soprano soloist. Nothing made her happier than to sit down to a piano and play music from Scott Joplin ragtime to Wolfgang Mozart to Cole Porter. She also enjoyed composing music and lyrics especially for her granddaughters and friends at the Greenbriar in Dallas, PA. In her life Beth loved music, humor, travel, taking pictures, Scrabble, calligraphy, birds, flowers, swimming and playing tennis.

At her 50th College Reunion from Mount Holyoke she received an award from her Class for her persistent good humor. Beth had such a quick wit and could tell a funny story like no other. She was the kindest person who never uttered a disparaging remark about anybody. Generous and compassionate she contributed to many organizations. One of her favorites was the Heifer International organization which works to end hunger and poverty around the world.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Sara White, her brother Hugh James White, her son Hugh Alexander Chase and her beloved partner of 27 years Elizabeth White Saunders.

Beth is survived by her son Edwin Theodore Chase V of Forty Fort, PA, a brother Andrew Caine White of Hamilton, NJ, a sister Mary-Martha White Scott (brother-in-law John R. A. Scott) of Lawrenceville, NJ, a sister-in-law Nancy Zink White, of Herkimer, NY. Her granddaughters, Alexandra Elisabeth Chase and Cameron Hanna Chase, were the light of her life.

She is survived by a nephew and nieces: Robert White Scott (Lenora Warren), nieces Kate Scott Sammons, Margaret Scott Moros (Zack) and Elizabeth Scott Muñoz (Disan) as well as great nephews and nieces Lucian Warren-Scott, Calvin and Lucy Moros, Jack and George Sammons and Isabelle Muñoz. She is survived by an aunt, Lydia Shannon Caine of Pelham, NY as well as two cousins Douglas and Marc Caine.

She is survived by Elizabeth White Saunders children Scott, Katherine, Thomas and Jason, their spouses and children.

Beth is also survived by Linda Giannasi O’Connell, a lifelong friend she met in college who was like a sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heifer International (heifer.org) or SAGE (sageusa.org) advocacy and services for LGBT elders.

Memorial service and burial at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY will be announced at a later date.
